Our winery

Weingut, Moselwein

Our family has a tradition in producing good wine that reaches back to the early 16th century. This long tradition combined with the ongoing modernization of our business ensures the top-quality of our light white and red wines full of character. Varietals include Riesling, late Burgundy red wine, Kerner, Müller-Thurgau, Dornfelder, white Burgundy and Ortega.

Best results are achieved only through intensive manual work.

We care about the whole production process ourselves – from cultivating the vines to bottling the wines on our own premises. Our wine-growing fields add up to a size of 3.5 acres. The wines grow mainly on steep slopes and terraces and are produced ecologically.

To guarantee for our top-quality wines, we severely prune the vines to produce smaller yields. Once the grapes reach our premises, they are processed in our modern wine press quickly but carefully. The temperature-based fermentation and the subsequent ripening of the wine in stainless steel tanks and wooden barrels provide for excellent, full-bodied fruity wines.

The "Bullesje", the former local prison

In former days – approximately up to the 18th century – this was not a place you wanted to be. It accommodated what was known as the "Bullesje von Ediger" which was the local prison. Many a criminal was locked away in this place for days and nights on bread and water only. Today, excellent wines are stored here. Isn't it amazing how times sometimes change to the better?
